CARL LINNAEUS: Pioneer of Modern Botany

A thorough, very interesting and fast-paced study of the father of biological taxonomy. The author, who has essayed science with good results in the First Book series, follows the young Linnaeus as a student of theology and as a botanical explorer; she also gives a lucid summary of his major contributions to the field. In comparison, the Stoutenburg Beloved Botanist is considerably fictionalized, and fuller in regard to Linnaeus' personal life, but much less detailed about his scientific contribution. As easier reading, Beloved Botanist will appeal to the younger and/or less scientifically oriented child; this is an excellent research report for the others.
