BUTTERFLY TIME by Alice E. Goudey

Email this review

Two children, a boy and his sister, seem to drift through the seasons from spring to fall spending all their waking hours watching and commenting upon butterflies. Facts are woven into the string of descriptions, as the boy records the uninterrupted nature walk. The illustrations in soft pastels are as quiet in mood as the explanations. Delicate butterflies are accurately, effectively drawn, while the children appear as slightly rigid fade-outs in the background or on the sidelines. A brief author's note explains the butterfly's life cycle and a doublespread in color shows the various types mentioned in the text.
