Although there is nothing here that has not been known from earlier magazine and newspaper coverage, there will be those who may want the continuity a book affords of the life- and loves- of Princess Margaret. This tells of the ""golden days"" of childhood, dolls, and Norman Hartnell's clothes, on to the years at Windsor-and more Norman Hartnell clothes; the travels; and the first meeting at 15 with Wing Commander Peter Townsend. Always gay, sociable, but with a ""serious side"" as well, Princess Margaret was seen everywhere; the first flare of gossip over Townsend led to her brief withdrawal and the two years' separation; finally the painful decision to give him up; and at 29, the marriage to Anthony Armstrong Jones, the wedding, gifts and gowns, and their home at No. 10 Kensington Palace.... Along with the gold plating-there's a certain candy coating too- which is probably what a certain unsophisticated audience wants.
