Written with spirit, style and imagination, Alice Parmelee has told again those portions of the Bible story in which birds are mentioned. They are seen and described against the background of nature as it is found in the Holy Land, but they are seen too as revealers of parts of the Bible message. Here one meets the raven and the dove, the quail and the eagle, the sparrow and the cock, and many another bird of the air whom we have so often passed over lightly as the Scripture is read. This is a genuine contribution to the lore of the Bible, and if there is not to be found profundity of scholarship there is an abundance of patient and loving and careful research. Bible readers will enjoy this fresh approach to much that is already familiar.
