In the photographic sense of the word here is a picture story that uses the camera art to advantage by making appropriate aspects of it fit strikingly with the text. Set in New York City, the story is a fairy tale, and for its hero there is Martin, a boy who finds two magic seagull feathers and is told by an old Chinese magician on Mott St. that he can use their powers for a day. Martin makes himself invisible (shown in the photographs with a shadowy figure of himself superimposed upon other scenes) and in the course of adventures helps capture three robbers. An old plot- but its new dressing, in words and pictures that both play interestingly on the ""fallacy"" of the camera eye, make it a new step in picture book art.
