As adequate introductory material this fits nicely into the pattern of other books in the series (see South Africa by Alice Taylor, Yugoslavia by George Kish, etc.). Geography, a few historical highlights, living conditions among the nomads and towns-people, crafts such as rug making and their economic and cultural importance- these are among basic topics commented upon. There is reference too, to the huge oil industry and the involving political situation, which, though stated in the abstract, is accurate.
