The third novel in the panel launched with Oil for the Lamps of China. Hester and Stephen Chase are thrust back into the disillusioning business uncertainties of their own country, and the result is one of the best business stories I have read. There's the maelstrom of post-war instabilities, the boom, the crash, the struggle between ambition and pride and a hatred of compromise and expediency, a distrust of his fellow men. An interesting study of a woman's share in adjustment, in sympathy and understanding. The scene shifts from New York to Kansas; from the musical world to the business world. It is a book that gives one pause, and it ends on a note that makes one hope there is more still to come, for the Chases seem real people in a real world. Publishers planning extensive advertising, sales aids (post cards, posters, brochure on the author, etc.) A good selling jacket. Easy to rent -- easy to sell.
