An excellent introduction to some early scientists and their dinosaur discoveries. The brief, lively text is packed with interesting tidbits seldom mentioned at this easy reading level, and conveys to the reader the sense of wonder and the continuing search for answers about dinosaurs. Included are introductions to the fossil bones described in 1676 by Dr. Robert Plot, Mary Ann Mantell's fossil discoveries in England in 1822, and the fossil footprints discovered by Edward Hitchcock in America in 1835. Readers will enjoy the drawing of the Crystal Palace Exhibit in 1853 with a banquet being held inside a model of Iguanodon. Carefully labeled dinosaurs in colored chalk and pen enhance the text, while an index provides the name of each dinosaur, where it was found, and the period it lived. The author notes that the dinosaurs depicted lived in different parts of the world, a thoughtful addition for the young reader who may be puzzled by the juxtapostion of dinosaurs from different periods. A useful and attractive title on a popular topic.
