A COMMENCEMENT ADDRESS

This address to the Senior Class at Smith College is more than an engaging envoi and over and beyond its opening pleasantries, argues toward the development of ""self-knowledge in international relations"". For this generation which will have to ""forego the pleasures of riling the British, regretting the French, and joking about the Italians"", there will be the challenge of learning to live with Europeans as equals,- and earning the friendship and the respect of the countries which will share our future.... Alistair Cooke is always a disarming and discerning commentator- but it is difficult to indicate just what the audience for a small book such as this will be.
