The characters in these stories--two more in the Funnybones series--are mostly skeletons, which would give them high interest even without Ahlberg's inventive wit. When the skeleton cat loses a leg while sliding in the snow, it's off to the boneyard for a replacement. The pet shop is source of a series of unsatisfactory skeleton pets--e.g., a huge hippo, or a rabbit that multiplies. Mildly bizarre, but the language is sprightly and suitably repetitious, the illustrations bold and amusing.
