KIRKUS REVIEW

A modern translation of the sagas dealing with the Norse discoveries, in which the well-established facts have been sifted out -- and in which the two versions (Greenland and Karlsevni) have been welded together. This to make accessible to readers, students primarily, the original texts of the famous legends. The first half presents the stories of Eric the Red, of Leif Ericson, of Thorbjorn and Gudrid, of Karlsevni and the wicked Freydis. A second half gives authentication (from other sources at the time, etc.) and interpretation.
