A satisfying story of an orphan who goes to spend the summer with a nice family on a farm near the Kansas-Oklahoma border. Of course Peggy cherishes a secret wish that they'll want her to stay on as their own, but there's no sentimentality here, and she is a carefree, mischievous, normal little girl. She finds that John, the son, doesn't like girls, but she finally wins him over by doing well things boys are good at. There's plenty of excitement as when Peggy and John are chased up trees by a bull; when the family takes refuge from a storm in the cyclone cellar, and so on. Well written, lively story with a happy ending.
