ODD JOBS IN LUMBERING

By

Publisher: Putnam

Odd jobs being all that's left to cover in lumbering, the title makes some sense as a come on even if it obscures the contents of the book, a glossary of loggers' lingo as applied to job titles. Each page features a different term, a cartoon suggesting the literal meaning (a ""hogger"" is calling hogs), a photo depicting the appropriate job (an engineer at the controls of a logging locomotive or ""hog""), and a description of the work, with a little of its history and its contribution to lumbering. The sequence is strictly arbitrary, the interest largely peripheral, but lumbering buffs will pick up a lot of odd information from the seventy- odd odd jobs.
