Male-female partnerships, although the individuals are not acting in male-female roles. ""Each set of partners. . . worked in a different discipline of science. More importantly, each man and woman has had interests beyond his own specialty."" More precisely, the husband and wife team of Betty Meggars and Clifford Evans always arrange for at least one native student to accompany them on their digs in South America. Negro Louis Tompkins Wright and daughters Jane and Barbara have worked unceasingly in medical practice and research, which necessarily meant cracking racial barriers. Also included; sister and brother astronomers Sir William and Caroline Herschel; father-daughter entomologists Cadwallader and Jane Golden and several married couples--the Curies, nuclear physicists Gertrude Scharff-Goldhaber and Maurice Goldhaber, biochemists Marta Borbiro and Albert Szent- Gyorgyi. In some instances the biography is cloying and irrelevant (e.g. how much and what color eye-shadow Jane Wright wears) and the need to elaborate interests outside the lab often outspaces the ""scientific"" report.
