THE MEXICAN STORY

Simply and quite beautifully, May McNeer and Lynd Ward have combined talents again to tell the history of Mexico, and their new book is every bit as successful as their brilliant biography of Martin Luther, published last spring by Abingdon-Cokesbury. In a splendid job of condensation, that adds color and detail where it is appropriate, May McNeer relates events from legendary Aztec beginnings to the present day. Lynd Ward's lithographs, in glowing colors, are exciting social comments in themselves. And beside the outline of events, there are the passages on the different cultures the land has seen and their intermingling through the centuries that has produced the Mayan pyramid, a Pancho Villa, the striking murals of an Orozco, a country market place. Entirely worthwhile. For the eight to eleven group as well.
