BE FIT FOR LIFE

Publisher: Harper & Row

A practical and intelligent guide to physical fitness, this book covers seven areas: self-tests to determine the reader's present level of fitness; four programs of exercises for men and women; an additional program for children as well as for those over sixty-five; suggestions on correction of bad habits and on the formation of healthful ones; a new approach to weight loss with a combination of diet and exercise and prescriptions for effective relaxation and sound sleep. Dr. Rodahl's approach to these topics is one of basic commonsense in the hopes that the reader ""will find that by following the sensible, medically proved means set forth in this book his working hours will have become less tiring and more productive, his leisure more zestful, his tension less pressing."" He also takes up such points as the usefulness of isometric exercise which he does not find particularly helpful and in some cases, harmful, or he may discuss the effects of stimulants and tranquilizers. The programs are particularly suited to each group's needs. Weight and calorie charts as well as menus are included. Effective, useful advice and direction.
