These are thumb-nail sketches of Roger Bacon, William Caxton, Thomas More, Christopher Wren, Edmund Halley, Sarah Siddons, Robert Owen, Charles Dickens and Florence Nightingale. They are neither sufficiently animated nor inimate to attract young readers. Good sound fact is here, but the technique suffers in the light of the many excellent ""profiles"" being written today. Excerpts from the subjects' diaries and journals or, as in the case of More and Dickens, their books, offset the monotony of biographical data. Drawings in black and white.
