THE THUNDER KING: A Peruvian Folk Tale by Amanda--Adapt. & Illus. Loverseed

THE THUNDER KING: A Peruvian Folk Tale

An unexceptional retelling of a tale about Illanti, who rescues his kidnapped twin, Tantay, from ""Thunder, King of the Skies""; a llama and a condor help him on his journey to Thunder's mountain castle, where Tantay is imprisoned. Loverseed incorporates many Peruvian references in her basically realistic watercolor illustrations and decorative borders; unfortunately, the overall effect is overbusy and sometimes confusing, though the Thunder King is dramatically conceived and the stylized condor is quite handsome. No sources are given--is this, like the illustrative style, an ad hoc blend? Adequate, but marred by lack of care in the presentation.
