JAMESTOWN: First English Colony

Email this review

The checkered history of the Jamestown Colony and the attendant political intrigues carried on in the frustrating slowness of the seventeenth century and in the fustian prose of the period has been made more vital here than any textbook account would be. The outstanding color reproduction work that is a notable feature of the American Heritage Junior Library is in full evidence with contemporary maps, drawings, portraits from the tobacco colony. Outstanding biographical material has been worked into a text which reads very smoothly and with all the sensation of an historical novel. There is a well-selected list of suggestions for further reading and an index which serves as a guide to both the text and the illustrations.
