Sparks fly between a former professional football player and his restless personal assistant in this contemporary romance.

For five and a half years, Cecilia “CC” Morgan has worked for football superstar Wade Carter of the Denver Broncos. She’s been at his beck and call, no matter what time of day or night, and as a result, she’s put her own social life and dreams on hold. But when she receives a call from her broker about a successful investment, she can finally leave the job behind and begin her own life. Then Wade’s father, Cal, enters the hospital to receive a pacemaker, so CC doesn’t feel right about breaking her news just yet. Wade later heads back home to Credence, Colorado, to help with the family farm while his father is recuperating, and there’s no way he can do that without his trusty personal assistant. CC, who grew up in Nebraska, isn’t interested in going back to a rural life, so she quits. However, Wade reminds her that she has six months left on her employment contract. He offers to let her out of it three months early if she comes to Colorado—but he didn’t promise not to use other means to keep her around. Andrews (The D.I.L.F., 2019, etc.) presents what appears to be a familiar romance plot about a millionaire playboy finally realizing that the girl right under his nose is actually “The One.” However, there’s enough charm and wit in this version of the tale to make it worthwhile. Some readers may find it odd, though, that the two never considered each other as potential partners before despite spending nearly every day together for more than half a decade. But the humorous banter between Wade and CC, as well as the depiction of Credence’s ladies’ singles weekend during Wade’s visit, ultimately makes this book engaging. The entertaining cast of secondary characters—particularly Cal, who loves piglets, and Wade’s shy brother Wyatt—adds to the appeal of this truly fun summer read.

A spirited blend of small-town romance and enemies-to-lovers electricity.
