Jenny Marks, one of the trio of eight-year-olds introduced in Pajama Party (1992), gets a baby sister. In the first of six brief chapters narrated by her friend Casey, the three girls read about ``having a baby'' in a book that Mrs. Marks had planned to share with Jenny, to their considerable astonishment (``Somebody made it up. This book has nothing to do with a person's parents''). The other chapters concern their eagerness to care for little Daisy, and the predictable—but still amusing—events the first time Mrs. Marks puts them in charge (sensibly leaving a long list of ``things not to do,'' and going only to other side of the terrace door). Brisk, funny, and true to life; Trivas's comic, informal watercolor sketches brighten each inviting spread. Fiction/Young reader. 6-9)
