Most un-British in its exuberance and intimacy, this English woman's story of her last days on the Riviera after Dunkirk, and the hard trip back to England. She had lived in Monte Carlo for many years; had returned for a few months to England at the onset of war and then gone back during the ""phony war"" period. The fall of France brought its toll of sorrow, bewilderment, surprise. She followed instructions to nationals to return to home territory on boats available for the purpose. These were colliers, ill-stocked, ill suited to passengers; it was a long trip, full of discomfort, almost defeating her. She fills in her personal record with such items as the romance of an English girl and a Frenchman; the nabbing of an enemy agent, etc. Somewhat limited appeal.
