Two friends play hide-and-seek with each other from opposite ends of this nearly wordless Danish import.

Huge eyes peer through pairs of die-cut holes in the front and back covers, and viewers are going to need sharp oculars of their own to spot the two anthropomorphic figures—foxes, maybe?—as they head in opposite directions amid crowds of similarly googly-eyed bugs, worms, mice, and less-identifiable residents posing or busily engaged in various activities in a series of indoor and outdoor settings. To make the spotting easier, Arhoj gives the two playmates differently shaped hats; to make it (much!) harder, he varies the overall color scheme, street or other grid pattern, and visual density from spread to spread. Looking closely at all the stylized, quirky figures and trying to figure out just what they’re doing offers further ongoing distraction from the task at hand…or maybe that is the more rewarding task at hand. Just why is that ball of fuzz with pipestem arms and legs and cowboy boots so excited to see the six-legged yellow dachshund, anyway?

An English language debut offering little worlds of eye candy.
