Gide offers more dynamic information and arguments for use by the enemies of Stalin and the Soviet Union. An answer to the critics of his earlier book, Back from the U.S.S.R. Professing sympathy for the revolution and for the Communist cause, he criticizes, nonetheless, the terrorism, bureaucracy and poverty in Russia today. Master of language that he is, his points are impressively made. His sympathy for Trotsky will antagonize apologists for the regime.
