THE RETURN OF ADAM SMITH

With a brief biography of Adam Smith, and a precis of The Wealth of Nations and its defense of freedom, the individual and orthodox capitalism, this breaks away into some personally animated and rather loose thinking about the governmental encroachment on our political and economic liberty today. Attacking liberal, socialist, communist forces, one and the same thing to Montgomery who here styles them as ""social coercionist"", he indicates the danger of state intervention in economic affairs; shows how price fixing of any kind is disastrous; takes a swipe at the ""gross inefficiency and waste"" of projects such as the TVA; and in a drubbing of those who have perverted Adam Smith for the American youth of today, he hopes for a future enlightenment from other sources- notable among them ""the unique editorial staff of the Wall Street Journal"" ... We may not be enlightened, but we're certainly not converted.
