The death of a patient puts a doctor’s life in jeopardy.

Arriving at work one morning, Dr. John Bishop is shocked to discover that one of his patients, the young, beautiful Eva Bentley, died during the night. Though her injuries were severe, the doctor made sure to leave her in stable condition. Her sudden death provokes not only an investigation by the hospital, but a massive malpractice suit from the Bentley family. Certain he followed correct procedure, the young rehab physician reviews the autopsy results, and uncovers evidence that Eva had been murdered: A tiny chip in her brain released a chemical that caused her to stop breathing. Bishop secures the evidence in his office, but when he goes to retrieve it the next morning, it has disappeared. A few days later, the pathology lab–and Eva’s body along with it–is destroyed in an explosion. The doctor announces an extended leave of absence and begins digging into Eva’s past, finding in the process an unexpected ally, his ex-girlfriend, Gabby. An executive officer at the hospital, she begins investigating hospital records, as Bishop travels first to Hungary and then to St. Martin in search of clues about Eva’s life. Throughout his travels, the doctor encounters threats on his life, while further charges are heaped upon him at the hospital. In this first installment of the trilogy, the authors–despite testing the boundaries of credibility–offer a captivating mystery fueled by both danger and burgeoning romance.

A satisfying medical thriller.
