FEININGER ON PHOTOGRAPHY by Andreas Feininger

FEININGER ON PHOTOGRAPHY

By

Publisher: Ziff-Davis

One man's opinion on photography through the eyes of one of the most expert in the field, this is a stimulating book for the amateur creatively interested in photography who wants to go far beyond the ordinary snapshooter. The first section dealing with the technique of making a photograph covers basic factors; the second part, on the art of maki a photograph, derives from his own experience as a magazine photographer. Feininger here describes various controls, available to the photographer, as well as light and lighting, motion, composition and perspective. For the average amateur, the emphasis may occasionally seem disproportionate and Feininger unknowingly assumes too great an interest in certain phases of photography (his stress on perspective, for example, which may be due to hi training as an architect). The book is however the most handsome introduction to photography in published form, in its format, binding and more than 300 photographs as well as drawings and diagrams. For some, however, the price may be a deterrent.
