Saladin--the code name for a terminally ill Palestinian businessman--is the catalyst in a moderate Arab effort to provoke peace in the Middle East with a single daring stroke. His quixotic plan entails destroying Shin Beth's new headquarters in Jerusalem in order to stir up negotiations for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. Stephen Roscoe, a British ""gentleman-at-arms"" is recruited to lead the sabotage squad; Michael Yaacov of Israeli Army Intelligence and assorted Black September-El Fatah-PFLP terrorists constitute the major obstacles. Familiar? Alas, this is convoluted and discursive enough to lose you on the outskirts of Beirut.
