FRANKLIN AND THE WAR OF AMERICAN INDEPENDENCE

This has a curious interest as an account of the advent and the conduct of the American Revolution from a British point of view. It is only incidentally a biography of Franklin, being confined to his connection, largely diplomatic, with the conflict. Just how important he was as an emissary and exemplar abroad becomes apparent here, but this is only one element, covered in other biographical studies, in a short chronicle of battle campaigns and British cabinets, actions and reactions on both sides of the Atlantic.
