100% romanticists might be tricked into enjoying this lush novel of reincarnation, ineptly set in Europe of the World War, the Austrian Anschluss and the submarine warfare of the present crisis. But to the hard-headed average reader, the story is unreal, -- sublime, perhaps for the heroine, but ridiculous for the audience. The strange name of Sirion is the key that unlocks the mystery, as the heroine -- after an interlude of twenty years -- enlivened by a son and a second marriage, terminated by suicide on the part of the disillusioned German husband -- our dewy-eyed Mary, rediscovers her lost love of girlhood in the person of a mysterious artist friend of her son's. Sorry -- but I can't take it.
