KIRKUS REVIEW

Maestro Felice, the clientless Italian musician, makes instruments and music for the pleasure of it; when he makes his masterpiece, the golden guitar, he carves two marionettes--Mimi and Dodo--to dance inside it. The rich man who buys the guitar can't play it because Mimi and Dodo close it up tight, so the townspeople buy it back with barter.
