MOON GAP

A non-worldly tale of a girl's retreat to her isolated home, Moon Gap, to wait for a husband who had abandoned her. With her stubborn, untrustworthy, dominating Pop, her weak, selfish brother, Eddie, and her childish, amoral younger sister, Rose, Cassie endures the stark life of the Nevada ghost town, the prospects of uranium discovery by field scientists, the knowledge that Pop has robbed the dead passengers of a plane that had crashed, the nightmare of a siege of illness, and the events of the past that her dead mother's diary creates. When Rose and Eddie leave, the battle is joined between Cassie and Pop- and she wins out in getting the inheritance her mother had left her children. Her faith has its reward when her Bill returns. A screening of mental havoc, of a dream not relinquished, this has none of the grim sordidness of Mama Maria's (Scribner, 1947) and has much more creative, imaginative material involved.
