Ann Landers who Since You Asked Me (1961) has acquired a readership of 54 million, or one on every Castro Convertible in the country (ages six to 101; almost half are men) puts together a new collection of her columns which probably have no competition anywhere except from sister Dear Abby (1958), probably her only unsolved problem. Assorted unhappy spouses and anxious parents here in a variety of domestic situations (sex, health, manners, morals, money, you name it--she handles it) and inevitably some of this is pretty funny; like the young couple whose braces locked in a goodnight kiss, or the woman who was ready to give away her allergic child rather than give up the allergen--smoking. As you also know, she's a gal who doesn't hesitate to call a dolt a clod and she's managed to convert her agony column into a lot of goodsensical advice. . . .
