KIRKUS REVIEW

...in a rocking chair,/Two yellow bows tied on braided hair...Four steel drums...Seven conch shells..."": five rhymed couplets describe ten typical, evocative island scenes, vibrantly depicted in glowing double spreads--an excellent debut for both author and illustrator. Russell provides some extra things to count; the objects are individually distinct, though some of the coconuts almost get lost in the gutter; still, very attractive, especially the people, who brim with life and good humor.
