What kind of house would you live in? Did boys and girls learn the same things? What were good manners? Could anyone become an Indian chief? Questions and answers about everyday life, full of browsable specifics and pleasantly laid out, in an uncrowded format with full page black and white drawings that make for a sympathetic impression of the people and culture. However, the text manages only a superficial glimpse; McGovern is pat where uncertainty might be wiser (the name redskin came from their red war paint?), the manners come off as stranger than they might with more explanation, and the name Sioux itself is never questioned or its origin mentioned.
