THE RISING OF THE LARK

Just a little something for the girls after the fashion of Jane Eyre. Wales is the setting of this basically Victorian romance. 9-year-old Catriona is an orphan being raised by a young, pretty and ferociously spinsterish governess. Catriona is set on a strict regime of all study and no play. All rebellions are quashed. With the advent of a tutor, the good and gentle Morgan, some tenderness comes into the life of Catriona who falls in love with him. She grows up and the improbable love becomes a reality despite the governess' determined attempts to destroy the match. A favorite old plot in lively new prose.
