Engaging, well-composed color photos from all the inhabited continents celebrate the diversity of the world's peoples--as demonstrated through basic examples of two necessities: food and clothing. The simple texts describe the variety pictured (""skinny bread, fat bread, round flat bread, bread with a hole"") and comment on some of the activities and uses (""Fun hats. Work hats. . .Cover the head. . .Beautiful!""). Identification of the countries represented is reserved for the last two pages; while this preserves the admirable simplicity of the layouts, it would be preferable not to have to flip back and forth for this essential information--though, on the other hand, not emphasizing it affirms humanity's commonality. Bread, . . .less frequently considered in children's books, may be the stronger of these, but both are excellent.
