A rather obvious parable about greedy King Glut, whose lust for eggs (his favorite food) takes him on an adventurous voyage in hopes of consuming the last dodo egg. Fortunately, it hatches just before his cook begins to prepare it, and it's love at first sight, with the King--in what some may regard as an overreaction--swearing off eggs forever. The story does lend itself to earnest discussion, but the book's outstanding feature is its boldly stylized illustrations, full of lively incident and amusing detail.
