SHELTER WITHOUT WALLS

More substantial than the average light novel, in a family story of diverse loves, losses, problems and conflicts. The family is the Bennisters; the father, newly appointed head of local university, conventional, short-sighted, disappointed in the lives his girls choose to lead. There is Beatrice, who marries a missionary and goes out to China, where she commits suicide; there is Abby, who marries a liberal; there is Constance, the youngest, who marries the missionary after her sister's death. Competent, credible.
