There are two few good stories of natural small children- and this is an appealing one. T.J. and Kate, around seven, are likable normal kids; they do the kinds of things their readers will identify with; their attitudes towards an older sister and a younger brother are what might be true in any group of four children. The setting- in a semi-rural neighborhood not far from Utica- provides a blend of town and country that makes the things they do, the fun they have, the mischief they make, recognizable to second and third grade readers. And the delightful pictures by Ellie Simmons are just right for the text.
