A creative manual in the manner of Miller and Lubell's Stitchery Book or Erica Wilson's Fun with Crewel Embroidery, all of which reflect renewed interest in vanishing handicrafts generally, and specifically in teaching them to children. However, rug hooking requires considerable practice, preferably supervised, and considerable application, which means that it's better attempted in workshops like those Miss Wiseman herself conducts. Where there are guiding hands, this supplies fundamental instruction in assembling equipment, selecting fabrics and preparing strips, using the rug hook (plus how to make one), overcoming, obvious problems, and finishing off the project. It also suggests alternative methods of getting a design onto the backing, and possible picture sources. None of this is especially innovative but it is a sensible, succinct start, adequately pictured.
