THE ART OF FLOWER AND FOLIAGE ARRANGEMENT

Long on art theory, sound through the author's approach, this guide to the synthesis of flowers and containers and the balance of blooms, concentrates to the point of tedium on the hows and whys of artistic balance. It is a serious, authoritative work presenting Oriental and Occidental methods of flower arrangement. The author gives suggestions for containers, for judging and scoring arrangements, for decorations in churches and clubs. She suggests harmonious containers to use with various periods of furniture. For garden clubs, or as a reference work, it has much of value to consider. Groups could find help from the variety of exercises in floral design interspersed throughout. Much of the theory and practice noted here have been covered in other general works.
