This is the story of a group of Kansas children and their adventures as members of a 4H club. To them 4H not only provides wholesome companionship, it instructs them in various agricultural activities, and provides them with small incomes. There is heartbreak in this story--- a boy fights his hostility toward people and an exaggerated preference for animals, a prize calf is killed on route to a competition, etc. And there is happiness as the children's efforts bear fruit in the fine specimens they raise for the state fair and in the warm friendship they cultivate. This book will appeal primarily to that vast network of young rural Americans to whom the 4H program is an available source of education and pleasure.
