Handsome drawings by Manning de V. Lee give an added dash to this better than average girl-boy-horse story, set on a farm near Chicago. After Mr. Macintyre's death, Margo, her mother and two younger sisters, decide to open a riding academy in order to offset expenses. With diligence and a little outside help, they make a success of it. Trouble comes when Margo's beloved Scarlet Royal, a skittish but loyal mare, is sold to the family of spoiled Genevra, who wants to be able to manage the horse herself. Neil, from Wyoming, and a student at Northwestern, comes to board with the Macintyres when they advertise for farm help. When spiteful Genevra refuses to resell Scarlet Royal to Margo, Neil, whose identity is unknown to Genevra is able to buy the horse after a telling riding exhibit, and all ends well. For the vast horse story market.
