Chalk this up for a red ribbon 4-H story, set in Indiana and complete with luscious country-side, growing ideals, grand youngsers and a happy ending. In the beginning, fourteen year old Jane Ellison, whose father is a doctor in Marquette, wants badly to live on a farm instead of in town. With her father on calls, she meets the poor but happy Ransomes and their son Chuck, who run a farm nearby. The following year, through school and through Jane's membership in the Cloverleaf Club, acquaintance ripens into a warm friendship that sees them all a lot wiser about the animals and crops around which their lives swing. Then comes the Ellisons' opportunity to buy a tenanted farm and start the life they really want. Completely salubrious.
