By children, but not in all cases childlike, many of the contributions to this beautifully produced anthology demonstrate the ability of very young writers to deal unselfconsciously with profound topics -- ""Death is like the growing of people/ It cannot be stopped,"" writes one eleven-year-old Australian boy. Other items are less weighty -- e.g., ""My Best Friend"" and a poem entitled ""Lemonade."" The art work, while uniformly impressive, reveals a similar diversification. There are few Miracles here but the international flavor (original versions of translations are included) and the colorful drawings compensate for some dead-weight prose. In its entirety the collection is likely to be most appealing to adults, and the editors suggest ""that this be a book for family sharing and reading aloud together"" -- one might add, selectively.
