Here are American folk tales, tall tales, legends in the making. As comprehensive a collection as I have chanced to see, with backgrounds including the Erie Canal, the Mississippi, steel mills, mining camps, ocean, lumber camps, and so on. The old favorites are there,- John Henry, Mike Fink, the Arkansas Bear, Paul Bunyan (French-Canadian and American versions), Boone, Crockett, Capt. Kidd, and so on. And many less familiar characters, all in the frontier and pioneer picture. A glossary at the close helps clarify the varying lingos.
