KIRKUS REVIEW

The author has attempted a difficult thing in presenting as her theme the interlocking history and present relationships of the peoples of Middle America. She has succeeded in giving a kind of birdseye view of the history of peoples of the areas of Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and libraries and schools will find valuable reference material on cultural contributions. But the text lacks the flow of narrative, the color and flavor of some of her more personal travel books. At times her style seems rather pedantic for straight reading. However, this material is difficult to find and the book meets a need. We hope she is illustrating it herself.
