The raising of carrier pigeons provides an unusual hobby and distracts the children of a ward in a large city hospital. In a doleful atmosphere of operations, wheel chairs, heavy casts, the pigeons afford a view into the world. Nat is sure nothing can interest him, but the pigeons become a contact medium between the children of the ward and their families. The genial pet-shop owner who starts the hobby, manages to break a few rules in order to bring a nesting pair to the fire escape of the ward, and starts the boys on their way to becoming real pigeon fanciers. Some dramatics for tension, but too long spun out a story for the average boy reader demanding action.
