THE GOLLYWHOPPER EGG by Anne Rockwell

THE GOLLYWHOPPER EGG

By

Pub Date: Feb. 1st, 1974
Publisher: Macmillan

Timothy Todd can peddle buttons and bottles and bandannas, molasses and needles and pins, but he can't sell his coconut until he calls it a gollywhopper egg and describes it in such extravagant terms (you don't even have to feed it for it eats words) that Farmer Foote takes it and tries to hatch the bird. The gollywhopper gets away and so does Timothy Todd as you know he will when you see him in checkered pants, fancy vest and handlebar mustache slyly putting the hype to red-bearded and suspendered Farmer Foote. But shucks, no one is really the loser in this perky tall tale made of short words and sunny country pictures.
